5、 How to light
By analyzing the space and desired effects, three basic lighting methods can be used for lighting design
3. Operation lighting – illuminating the working face
When reading, writing, and other tasks, people need sufficient diffuse light to hit the working surface from their shoulders or sides.
So the designer used the chandelier as homework lighting and installed it at the bedside according to the reading habits of the room owner. The angle of the chandelier was adjusted according to the owner’s reading posture;
A key element of how to illuminate is where the lighting fixtures are placed, which is particularly important for avoiding glare and light curtain reflection. This is also a decisive factor in emphasizing or weakening the surface texture expression of objects, as shown in the figure:
(Spotlights are installed on both sides and directly in front)
The front light hits the desktop, and the reflected light directly enters people’s eyes, which is prone to glare. The lights on both sides hit the desktop, and the reflected light exits from both sides of the residual light, avoiding the inability to read clearly when the written text is too bright.
So functional spotlights need to be installed on both sides, while also considering desktop materials such as glass, which are not suitable for spotlights.
